Christmas Tree Hanging

Christmas Tree
After completing the Tree Cover quilt, I had two leftover trees!  I took one and added setting triangles, a hanging sleeve and hung it above the dining room table with a little ribbon.  Merry Christmas!

Freya's Ten Little Rubber Ducks

This is another panel of Eric Carle's Ten Little Rubber Ducks.  I added scraps for borders and backed it with cozy fluffy material.  It went to Alaska Christmas 2012 for my granddaughter Freya.  I completely quilted, bound and labeled it before I added the fluffy backing.  If the backing gets worn or damaged it can be removed and the quilt will still be fine.

Ten Little Rubber Ducks

This is an Eric Carle pattern from the book Ten Little Rubber Ducks.  I had to buy the fabric separately and neglected to order enough of the border fabric.  So, I have lots of multi-colored checks in the border.  My son Scott and his wife lived on a boat for about 10 years, so rubber ducks is their theme.  I had to make this quilt.  It went to Alaska for Christmas 2012 along with a copy of Eric Carle's book, a rubber duck, and a set of three rubber duck drawer pulls.
I free-motion quilted using my domestic Bernina sewing machine.  The batting is wool and the backing is flannel.

Early Dawn Twilight

This quilt was made from triangles leftover after making the Tree Cover quilt.  I copied it from a Fons & Porter magazine photo.  I mailed it to my son Scott and his family in Alaska for Christmas 2012.
The backing for this quilt is a beautiful rainbow batik that was actually purchased for another project, but its better here.

Confetti Squares & Bear Paw & Windy 9-Patch

Confetti Squares
I made this little quilt in Alaska when I visited Scott, Dalena and Freya, and Torrin was born while I was there.   I used the last of the triangle squares from the Tree Cover quilt and some blue fabric that I bought in Homer.  It is backed with a remnant of super soft fleecy fabric that we found at an outdoor clothing manufacturer in Homer.  The star in the middle is dark blue with yellow stars on it and the center dark square looks a little bit like the Big Dipper.  It doesn't have a label other than words and date written in permanent marker on the front.

Back of Confetti Stars
There is no batting in this quilt, but I had to secure the fleece back to the front.  I stitched in the ditch.

Bear Paw

Bear Paw is a doll quilt I made in Homer with scraps I brought from home, more half-square triangle units, and bordered with fabric I purchased in Homer.

Windy 9-Patch
detail of Windy 9-Patch label

Windy 9-Patch is the first doll quilt I made in Alaska.  It was made from little 9-patches left over from Jamie's Desert Rock Star quilt.

I sewed and quilted these quilts using Scott's little Singer Featherweight, sitting at the kitchen counter with my feet and the foot pedal propped on a cardboard box.  My granddaughter Freya helped.
